Laura Kebart here, and I love assigning these paired poems in October so we can take some of that Halloween craziness and turn it into productivity🤪.
Now don't get me wrong--- It's not about "celebrating" Halloween since these poems have nothing to do with Halloween.
But I've found that this time of year does bring out a bit of the 'little kid' excitement around the season, and it's so fun to incorporate some of that childhood vibe--that energy!--into your classroom.
I think you'll find that these two poems + the accompanying lessons combine fun, energy, and rigor while pulling together skills we're constantly needing to review: reading, writing, speaking, and listening as it relates to vocabulary, grammar, mechanics, poetry, figurative language, and more.
